APA – Kigali (Rwanda) Rwanda’s economy grew 7.5percent in the second quarter compared to the previous quarter, the National Institute of Statistics said on Thursday.

In the second quarter, Services sector contributed 47 percent of GDP (it grew by 12%), Agriculture sector contributed 25 percent of the GDP (it grew by 2%), Industry sector contributed 20 percent of the GDP (it grew by 6%) and 8 percent was attributed to adjustment for taxes and subsidies on products, the institute said.

Data show that within agriculture, export crops increased by 17 percent boosted by 19 percent increase in the production of coffee and 2 percent in the production of tea. The production of food crops decreased by 1 percent due to a decrease in the harvest of season A of 2022 when compared to season A of 2021.

On the other hand, industry, mining and quarrying activities increased by 9 percent, manufacturing activities grew by 10 percent while given the high growth in construction during the second quarter of 2021, the sector did not grow further in the second quarter of 2022, it said.

The growth in manufacturing is mainly due to an increase of 8 percent in food processing, 14 percent increase in the production of beverages, 18% in the production of textiles & leather products, 10 percent increase in the production of wood & paper, the institute said.

Official figures indicate that within services, wholesale & retail trade increased by 17 percent while transport services increased by 27 percent.
