APA-Gaborone (Botswana) The Botswana government on Monday warned of searing heat over the northern parts of the country as it prepares for the agricultural season that kicks off later this month.

In a notice, the government said maximum temperatures are expected to significantly rise in the Ngamiland, Chobe and other central and northern districts of the country, reaching heatwave thresholds.

“Extremely hot temperatures of 39 to 41 degrees Celsius are expected over Ngamiland, Chobe, Central and North East districts,” weather experts said.

The weather experts called on the public to take necessary precautions such as taking a lot of water and avoiding being in direct sunlight.

It is traditional for Botswana and neighbouring countries to experience heat waves in October/November, just before the commencement of the rainy season that runs until April of the following year.
